The Eastside Attachment Parenting
Group was not brought together by zip code or age of the kids,
but rather their common philosophy on parenting. Everyone in the
group is an attachment parenting practitioner. The group organizers
saw the opportunity to bring like-minded parents together in a group
where they’d feel right at home.
Group organizer Monica explains, “It's just
a fantastic group of kids! That kind of dynamic comes when you
have a fantastic group of moms (and dads) who are raising those
kids!”
The group plans a variety of activities such as home and park playdates,
outings to kid-friendly destinations and special events for kids.
The group also hosts events to help promote important issues such
as breastfeeding and bonding.
“I think
what makes our group special is the amazing and wonderful moms that
are a part of it. Specifically, the assistant organizers are fantastic
and the group would not be what it is without their assistance and
support,” Monica adds. “I was somewhat reluctant to take ownership
of the group last August and wasn't sure what I was getting into,
but having a willing group of assistant organizers has made the past
year a fun and encouraging time!”
Monica and the assistant organizers take
pride in having revamped the group from something that nobody was
really invested in to an active group of 60+ members. The active
group reports that moms are happy to host and are now active on
the group’s message boards.
“Friendships have been formed and members get together outside of
the group which I think is pretty great,” Monica explains. “We have
events on the calendar most weekdays (and some weekends) and frequently
have events that are all full. I don't have a single "drama mama" in
the group and that makes being the organizer so much easier and more
fun for me!” |
